A safe space for you to explore whatever may be troubling you, or holding you back.
Welcome! My name is Emma and I'm an experienced counsellor working with adults, children & young people face to face in the Buckinghamshire and Berkshire area (incl. Windsor, Eton, Maidenhead, Burnham, Farnham Common, Beaconsfield and surrounding areas).
I also provide counselling support online or by telephone, to people based across the UK.
I understand that when you are going through difficult times in life, it can feel lonely, isolating and confusing. Those feelings can feel even bigger when your relationships with others, or yourself, are difficult in some way.
My approach to counselling is to provide an environment that is both safe and nurturing, a space where you can explore your emotions, thoughts, beliefs and experiences without fear of judgement. I will sit beside you in your challenging feelings, work with you to make sense of what is going on for you and support you to find your own way forward. We will work at your own pace, building trust and understanding, and enabling you to express yourself freely.
My belief is that connection and healthy relationships are fundamental to our wellbeing. The patterns for how we relate to others and behave in relationships are formed during the first few years of our lives. The interactions and connections we have with our primary caregivers’ (birth parents / adopted parents / guardians / carers) shape these patterns. When those first relationships have been difficult or lacking in some way (for any number of reasons), it can negatively impact our own sense of identity, confidence and self esteem, and impact our connections with others. Complex and challenging feelings can arise from unresolved issues in those early years, leading to challenges in many areas of our lives and complicating our interactions with those around us, as well as with ourselves. These factors can also determine how resilient we are and how we manage the ups and downs that life throws at us, including day to day stresses, the end of relationships, loss, death and other changes and challenges.
I spent my early career working in the corporate sector in sales and events. After a significant life event, I decided I needed a change of direction and went to work for an international development charity. I have sought out various types of therapy and counselling throughout my life, including when working through my own adoption. My own positive experiences of therapy led me to want to support people in the same way I have been supported.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework for counselling professionals (See www.bacp.co.uk)

There are many different types of counselling therapy available and it’s not a one size fits all approach. Even when people want to address similar issues or have experienced similar challenges, what will work for one person won’t necessarily work for another. The most important thing is finding a counselling therapist you feel safe and comfortable with. As a qualified Integrative Counsellor, I can work with a blend of different approaches and techniques, to meet your individual needs. We'll regularly review our work together to ensure you feel comfortable with how we are working together and you are getting what you need.
I work with people bringing a wide variety of challenges. Every person’s goals and motivations for coming to counselling will be different and how we work together will be unique to you. However, the one thing I work to support all my clients with is creating a safe and secure human connection in the counselling room. We go at a pace set by you, building a solid foundation of trust from which you can feel safe to start exploring difficult feelings and any challenges that may be holding you back in life. I see counselling as a collaborative process, it's not something that is ‘done to you’, rather a nurturing environment where I can support you with whatever you choose to bring in to your counselling sessions.
I work with both adults, children and young people aged 11+ and can offer anything from just a few sessions once a week to open-ended support, working together as along as is needed. We’ll work together to decide what will be best suited for you and your circumstances.
I’m able to offer adult counselling face to face, online or over the telephone. For children and young people I offer counselling sessions face to face.
Adults, children and young people come for counselling support on a wide range of issues. Some of the issues I have worked with include:
I provide counselling support for adults, children and young people from across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire including Windsor and Eton, Maidenhead, Farnham Royal, Farnham Common, Burnham, Cookham, Beaconsfield, Stoke Poges, Chalfont, Slough and surrounding areas.
I also offer online and/or telephone counselling for adults throughout the UK.
I currently have availability by appointment only at my counselling room in Farnham Common, which is wheel chair accessible. Pay and display parking is available.
I believe our ability to connect will be key to our work together. So the first step is for us to have an initial, free 15-minute phone call or online meeting, to help us decide if I am the right counsellor to support you.
When we feel comfortable to move forward together, we can arrange a time and day for our first 50 min counselling session. I currently have availability for evening and weekend appointments. My fees are £70 per session
